3 Tips for Panic Attacks

A lot of people suffer from panic attacks.  These panic disorders can vary from fears and phobias to OCD and other neuroses.

So what are a few tips for panic attacks that will help keep the problem under control?  You’ll usually know you’re having a panic attack when you start to have an increased heart rate, you get clammy hands, or your breathing starts to accelerate.  It’s not surprise that we feel like we’re in danger when we have panic attacks–these symptoms usually indicate danger in most situations.

Here is some advice you can follow to help control panic attacks or nervous breakdown symptoms:

First, Your Breath — Fast breathing is one of the prime indicators of a panic attack.  This could cause your blood stream to run low on CO2.  You could trigger a vicious circle of other symptoms when this happens, causing your panic and anxiety to spin out of control.  Stop this by watching your breath.  Start by just breathing very slow and deep.  Take time to fully breathe out all the air you inhale.  This will combat hyperventilation and can turn around a building panic attack.

Second, Pattern Interrupt — Your mind will focus on the trigger when you have a panic attack.  You can start to pay attention to something else to but the brakes on your panic attack before it gets out of hand.  It might seem cliche, but this is very effective.  Phone a good friend and tell a few jokes and laugh about some memories you share.  Watch one of your favorite television shows.  Whatever it might be, just take your focus off the attack.

Third, Understanding — The best way to avoid panic attacks is to really understanding your panic disorder.  It might be [public speaking|presentations|speaking in public], [driving|driving a car|driving on the freeway],  [meeting new people|interacting with people|socializing], or is it [something else|something entirely different|something completely unique].  The trigger is nothing more than the first of many layers.  You can find the core problem by unwrapping all the layers.  Once you have a better grasp of that, you can prepare better in your life.

Follow these tips and you’ll see your panic attacks decrease.  You can do this!  It may not be easy, but the results are worth it.
